Not that they need to worry about reshaping their image after selling a quarter-million copies of their last CD, but the local boys in Motion City Soundtrack probably won’t be called emo anymore after hiring a trio of big-name pop-rockers to co-produce their next album. The quintet signed none other than the Cars’ mastermind Ric Ocasek to helm several of the new tracks, while Fountains of Wayne’s Adam Schlesinger and Girls Against Boys’ Eli Janney will handle the rest. Recording started earlier this week in New York. Ocasek has also produced for Weezer, Guided by Voices and punk heroes Bad Brains.
