Who’s in for SXSW 2007?

The South by Southwest Music Conference released its initial list of performers for this year’s fest (March 14-18), and as usual, a healthy amount of local actswill make the unhealthy journey down to Austin. Making the cut were the Birthday Suits(pictured), Little Man, the Melismatics, the Pines, their Red House labelmates Storyhilland Iowa transplants the Slats, plus two SXSW veterans, the Honeydogs and Dan Wilson. SXSW organizers issue several lists of new names in the weeks leading up to the event, so the number of locals typically doubles by show time.
Some of the big names peforming at SXSW include: Iggy & the Stooges, whose new album I just heard (it’s pretty raw and ballsy, if not as mindblowing as their Coachella set I saw); the Good, the Bad & the Queen, which is Damon Albarn’s new all-star band with the Clash’s Paul Simonon; British cutey pie Lily Allen; Aesop Rock; Bloc Party; Strokes guitarist Albert Hammond, Jr.; the original Meat Puppets; Austin’s own Spoon; Nellie McKay; Paolo Nutini; Malajube; the Pipettes; unearthed veterans Sam the Sham and Charlie Louvin of the Louvin Brothers; and the keynote speaker is none other than Pete Townshend.
See the full list and other info at http://www.sxsw.com/. Any fans, professionals or other bands who are thinking of attending, feel free to sound off and let others know here.

Chris, I’m curious what makes the journey to Austin an unhealthy one?
