The Rock and Roll Hall of Fame has announced the presenters/speakersfor its induction ceremonies on March 12. Remember, this black-tie event is turned into a TV show on VH1, so demographics and star power were important factors in choosing the speakers.

Here are the speakers and a prediction of the quality of the speech.

Grandmaster Flash & the Furious Five inducted by Jay-Z. Appropos choice.Prediction: B+

Van Halen (both Hagar and Roth will be inducted; maybe this is the closest we’ll get to the VH reunion tour) inductedby Velvet Revolver. Hope they leave the talking to Weiland. Prediction: C

R.E.M. inducted by Eddie Vedder. He’s a kindred spirit who can be eloquently articulate. Prediction: A-

The Ronettes inducted by Keith Richards. Huh? Since they were an influential girl group, why not get a woman to do the honors — or have Bruce (I Loved that Phil Spector Wall of Sound) Springsteen do yet another Hall induction speech? Prediction: C+

Patti Smith inducted by Zach de la Rocha. What, no woman to induct thematriarch of punk poetry? Must be a trend. Prediction: B+
