They’re not the Grammys or the Country Music Assn Awards. But they matter to people who fall between the cracks in the genre known as Americana. The sixth annual Americana Awards were held Thursday night in Nashville’s Ryman Auditorium.

Here are the key winners:

Artist of the year: Patty Griffin

Album of the year: Patty Griffin, Children Running Through

Song of the year: Hank Williams’ Ghost by Darryl Scott

New/emergist artist: Avett Brothers

Group/duo: Avett Brothers

Instrumentalist: Buddy Miller

Good to see the Avett Brothers getting some recognition. Are they a Grammy dark horse, or am I kidding myself?

Nice to see Son Volt get a little love, even though they didn’t win! I’ll have to head over to iTunes to check out these Avett Brothers.
