Out today: Cloud Cult, Tapes ‘N Tapes
Posted on April 8th, 2008 – 10:25 AMBy Chris Riemenschneider
It’s a busy week for local music. Both Cloud Cult’s and Tapes ‘N Tapes‘ newest albums come out today, and each band will be in town this week promoting it.
First, though, Tapes ‘N Tapes have a little gig to play Wednesday night in New York: “The Late Show With Conan O’Brien.” Don’t miss it (11:35 p.m. on NBC). Then the boys return home for their CD-release show Thursday at First Avenue. If you don’t see my story on the new album, “Walk It Off,” click here. Will Hermes, who lived in Minneapolis for a minute, gave it a favorable if somewhat half-hearted review in Rolling Stone, read it here.
Cloud Cult perform today (Tue) at the Electric Fetus to promote their latest, “Feel Good Ghosts (Tea-Partying Through Tornadoes).” The in-store is at 7 p.m., and it’s free and open to all ages — whereas their show April 26 at First Ave is 18-and-up. After hearing the album a few times and catching the band down at SXSW, I’m impressed by how Cloud Cult just seems to be on a very steady roll. This one’s as good as the last one, which was slightly better than the last one, which was… With a second string player in the group now, the strings seem to play an even more prominent role, which is great by me.
If you pick up/download either of these albums, let us know what you think of them.

Where do you two retarded “critics” come up with this crap to write about?
You’re right, we should just ignore bands with local ties who are apparantly decent enough to get a slot on Conan O’Brien and a review in Rolling Stone. It’d be great if we could just focus on when Daughtry’s next tour comes into town. Maybe we’ll be really lucky and Three Days Grace will be playing too.
Sammy Jr. is just getting a little antsy about his 24th row seats at the upcoming Michael Bolton show at Grand Casino in May. Cool your jets, dude.
Lookin forward to pickin up both albums tonight after work. Can’t wait!
I got my pre-ordered Tapes album in the mail Friday. Didn’t like it the first couple listens, but it has really grown on me since. I’m really digging “Blunt”.
not that big on Fridmann’s production on a good portion of the Tapes new one, but songwriting wise it’s very strong and musically it’s way more interesting than The Loon.
new Cloud Cult is great, i’d put it just behind Hippo & Meaning of 8, but they’re all 3 pretty damn awesome.
Cloud Cult is one of the most underrated bands right now. They’re simply amazing. I’m glad to see they’re getting nearly as much local press as TnT! “Meaning of 8″ was one of last year’s best rock records. I’ve never seen them (seems like the dates never work out for me), but I can’t wait to see them this year.
