Independent record stores across the country are banding together for a one-day celebration Saturday touting the fact that they’re still alive and kicking (and as a gimmick to help stay that way). They’re calling it Record Store Day. Many stores are hosting in-store gigs and special events. Here in the Twin Cities, we get … free beer!

Both Roadrunner Records and Treehouse Records in Minneapolis will have free suds available Saturday afternoon, more importantly, they’re both offering pretty steep discounts: 40% off used CDs and 20% off everything else (sales items excluded). The Electric Fetus in Minneapolis will be giving away food all day starting with bagles in the morning and pizzas later. DJ Freddy Fresh will be spinning in the afternoon. Lots of specials and giveaways are also being offered. Check with your own local shops to see if they’re doing anything as cool.
