A Marley for Basilica Block Party

Cities 97, which loves Bob Marley, will announce soon the addition of Ziggy Marley, Bob’s son, for the Basilica Block Party. He’ll headline the bigger stage on opening night, July 11, while OneRepublic tops the smaller stage.

Now what do you think of the Basilica lineup, which, at first, looked like the weakest ever? Please post your comments here:

Ziggy is no Bob. The lineup still sucks.

Still W-E-A-K

How about they add a David Gray or Gomez…..then we’ll be talking!

Yeah, still nothing must see. Gomez would be cool.

Upon further review Gomez is opening for some little band called DMB in Florida both days of the block party. Hmmmmm, open for Dave Matthews Band in front of 50,000 people or headline the Basilica Block Party with Onerepublic?? That is a tough decision. (I understand this was probably never an option for either Gomez or Cities 97)

So since this show is a bust, can anyone recommend other outdoor shows to see this summer (besides anything at the Zoo, i am fully aware of the schedule). So far The Drams at Peavy Plaza and Romantica at the Mill City Museum are the only things on my must see list for this summer outside.

I like to make a comment about the article I read from Jon Bream in relation to the Frankie Valli concert. First having not seen the concert I’m only commenting on the article.I’m a loyal fan of Frankie Valli and what ever positive credits he receives he certainley earned them. The comment that Mr Bream wrote that Frankie Valli is no Barry Manilow is true.I would just like to turn this around and say Barry Manilow is no Frankie Valli! What I mean by that is in my opinion that is what sets these performers apart from young performers of today. It is true that sameness in the entertainment business seems to be the norm.I so admire the older performers so much for holding on to their idenity. GOD BLESS. Ike

Built To Spill w/ Romantica and a couple other bands outside the Cabooze on June 7th will be a blast.

and a few days later (6/12) on the same stage, Gogol Bordello.

Not to mention Rock the Walker, or the Rhymesayers event. There’s so much GREAT music that there’s no point getting worked up over the Basilica, Tasteless of Minnesota, or the Fair. Something for everyone.
Now, if someone would only book the Raconteurs we’d be good to go!
