Adele @ Jeune Lune
Posted on June 3rd, 2008 – 11:47 AMBy Jon Bream
Consider yourself lucky if you were at Theatre de la Jeune Lune on Monday to see Adele. It will be one of those legendary gigs that will be talked about years later — like seeing Prince at the Capri Theater.
Adele, 20, the toast of the U.K., is not the new Amy Winehouse. She’s the next Annie Lennox. She’s got a luxurious voice, range, depth and, hopefully, stability. And lots of personality and plenty of likable attitude.
Her album, “19,” will be released next week. After playing a 50-minute unplugged introductory show, the charmingly chatty Adele, who looked like a tall Linda Ronstadt, promised to return with a full band in the fall.
Here’s the set list:
1. Daydreamer 2. Best for Last 3. Right as Rain 4.Melt My Heart to Stone 5. First Love 6. Make You Feel My Love (Dylan song, on her CD) 6. That’s It, I Quit, I’m Movin On (Sam Cooke cover) 7. Cold Shoulder 8. Hometown Glory Encore 9. Crazy for You 10. Fool That I Am (Etta James cover) 11. Chasing Pavements

Didn’t someone in the music world with talent just pass?

ahahahahahahaha
i liked the show, but come the hell on!
Great review Jon. The venue, Juene Lune, was perfect for her.
Brilliant voice, no pretensions, just-take-me-as-I-am performer. One of the best of the new female talents from the UK.
not as good as Laura Marling though
UK Laura Marling is very good. Even younger than Adele. Different styles of course, more Joni Mitchell.
Looking forward to see her perform here, she has already played shows in New York City.
Adele was amazing in concert. After listening to her CD and her songs on U-Pop (XM) for the last five months, it’s a shame her label is finally getting around to releasing her album here. I kept thinking about Allison Moyet during her performance as well.
Now if we could also get Amy McDonald to play here as well!
Agree, it would be fantastic to see
Scotland’s finest 21 year old Amy MacDonald play here. Another new talented female, her CD release “This is the Life” reached #1 in the UK.
She reminds me of Sandy Denny.
I’ll add one of my own, want to see Candie Payne from Liverpool play here.
I dont get it - her album has been available for AGES in Canada. Its even on ITUNES. How can it only be released now? Is it only in the States 19 hasnt been released? I wonder why?
Anyway, she played a similar small club venue in Toronto this past winter (standing room only in a 200 people venue), but she is back in Toronto Tonight in a much bigger place - Cant Wait!!
