Kanye West is the most polarizing hip-hop superstar since Eminem. Music lovers seem to either love or hate Kanye.

Are you a Kanye lover or hater?  why? are you going to see him Wed. at Target Center? Are you still mad at him for cancelling KDWB’s Jingle Ball on short notice last December?

Please post your comment here:

I love him because he is outspoken and doesn’t beat around the bush. He says it like it is and he is a masterful entertainer. He knows how to shake up a crowd. I will be at Target Center Wednesday night.

I like him because he’s very materialistic and essentially killed his mom.

Think of it as a late term abortion.

To Rufas:

First of all…learn how to spell and properly use English.

Second of all, if you want to make this into some kind of racial superiority contest, I would start with black musicians who actually have talent.

For instance: any of the Delta blues artists whose music was morphed by artists, black AND white into rock-and-roll; Barry Gordy and the entire pantheon of Motown acts; Marvin Gaye; Aretha Franklin; Diana Ross; Prince. The list goes on and on well before you get to this untalented hack.

Music isn’t about race, it is about harmony. If you do not realize that, then I feel sorry for you.

Jamal,

I said nothing about Mr. West’s character. My point was that if you want to make music about whose race is superior, as Mr. Carver was in his post, then use artists who have more talent than turning on a synthesizer sequencer to build your case. There are plenty of them to choose from.

My point is that music should not be used as the bell-weather for racial superiority, but as an experience for bringing people together.

If Mr. West’s art inspires people otherwise, than I would suggest that his character is, is fact, lacking.

By the way, ain’t isn’t proper English, either, and if you use it, it should have an apostrophe to denote the fact that it is a contraction. Also, I believe you wanted to say, “Kanye is a good man. If you DO NOT know that, then you ARE the one who IS racist. Fool.”

Oops. You are right, these things should have spelling and grammar check. I should have said, “If Mr. West’s…THEN I would suggest…”.

Well, it is obvious I’m not going to win the debate, so I will re-iterate my points and call it a day:

1. Music is not about proving one race superior to another. It is about expressing the harmony of the universe. All the races have contributed to the musical experience over the ages;
2. Admittedly, I am not a fan of Mr. West’s music. Music is also subjective, as is all art. The very premise of the discussion, as stated by the moderator, was for a subjective discussion of whether, or not, people liked Mr. West’s art. Not liking Mr. West as an artist is not equivalent to judging Mr. West’s personal character;
3. If one WERE going to argue the superiority of one’s race in a public forum (which I would submit is, in fact, a form of racism) using music as the measuring stick, I would choose the very best artists to make my case. I would also make sure that I stated my case in a manner that didn’t call into question whether, or not, I should be making such an argument in a public forum.

If arguing that one should not use music to make a racial argument makes me a racist, so be it.

Also, for the record, at no point did I offer my own racial background into evidence.

I sincerely hope that all of Mr. West’s fans, who appreciate his art, enjoy their experience with him tonight. That is what it is all about.
