This sounds a little cooler than the Kiss tribute from a few years ago…

Pearl Jam, the Foo Fighters, Flaming Lips, Tenacious D and some band I can barely remember called Incubus all paid/played tribute to the Who in L.A. last weekend, a concert that was taped as a VH1 “Rock Honors” show that will air Thursday at 8 p.m. Click here if you want to read Rolling Stone’s review of the concert, but honestly, I’d rather keep the set list a surprise.

Maybe the Lips will bless fans with one of their Who covers at the 10,000 Lakes Fest next weekend???

Surprised not to see a review of the show. So, I’ll write my own.
Pearl Jam was magnificent.
Flaming Lips was a lot of fun with their “Tommy” covers and Wayne’s “Amazing Journey” over the fans.
Incubus was a surprise but they were really into it.
Sadly, by the time Pete and Roger came on, the crowd was worn out. Roger still sounds fine but it looks like Pete has hit the end of the trail.
One last note: how many of you were like me and wishing someone would have come out of backstage and done to Sean Penn what Pete did to Abbie Hoffman at Woodstock?

Oh yes. And the Foo Fighters again proved why they are the good guys of rock. (Who was that singing with them?)
Of the comedians: Tenacious D was very appropriate. Adam Sandler is not, was not and never will be funny.
