Nate Collis, guitarist for Atmosphere, just filled me in on a benefit/memorial he is helping put together tomorrow (Sat.) at the Hexagon Bar in Minneapolis. It’s for the wife and family of Chris Johnson, singer of the local punk band Useless Wooden Toys, who was fatally stabbed at a house party in Bloomington, Ind., in June. Police say Johnson’s attacker killed him after Johnson confronted him about groping a woman at the party.

The event is happening from 3 p.m. to close at the Hex, with barbecue and pizza for sale during the day and DJ sets by Paper Tiger, Lori Barbero, Skelly Skell and DJ Buck. Collis will kick off the music inside with his blues-rock duo with drummer Brian McLeoad, Attracted to Gods. Other bands include St. Pauli Grla, the Millionth Word, St. Paul Slim, Pretty Ugly and Misery. Now that’s what I call an eclectic mix. Must’ve been a pretty cool guy.

Think of this as a really late term abortion. We’ll miss the incredible talent. ZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZ.
