Newbie, oldie at 400 Bar tonight

I didn’t live here in the late ’90s, so I’m not quite clear if tonight’s reunion show by the Sandwiches at the 400 is a big deal or not. I can’t say I’m too impressed with the quirky tracks posted at www.myspace.com/thesandwichesmpls, but maybe they were great live. Anyone???

One act I am excited about, though, besides the middle-slot band the Bitter Spills – featuring Rich Mattson and Baby Grant Johnson – is opening act the Skylarks. It’s a brand new trio featuring the Owls‘ harmonious couple Brian Tighe (also of the Hang-Ups) and his wife Allison LaBonne, along with their pal Stephen Ittner. This is their first gig (9 p.m., $10).

And don’t forget: Mattson’s farewell gig with Ol’ Yeller is Saturday night at the Uptown Bar. Word is we might get a reprise of their Finnegan’s ShamRock version of “It’s a Long Way to the Top (If You Wanna Rock).
