Tim McGraw @ Treasure Island

It was good timing. Tim McGraw was coming off a vacation so he took a fairly casual approach to his unstuffy grand-opening gig at Treasure Island Casino’s new Event Center. That was a good thing. McGraw was friendly, chatty and quick witted. Not only was he in good spirits, he was in good voice and good shape (his muscles bulged in his sleeveless shirt).
McGraw offered three new songs, none of which will be on his forthcoming “Greatest Hits 3″ package. He opened with “Still,” performed the ballad “You Had to Be There” about missing one’s father and served up the can’t-miss “Southern Voice,” a rockin’ name-checking anthem that mentions Aretha Franklin, Dolly Parton and Rosa Parks in the same verse and Tom Petty, Pocahontas, Jack Daniels and Billy Ray Cyrus in another. The singer made a snide comment about not knowing when the songs would be released because he records for Curb Records.
The light show wasn’t much. In fact, this was a fairly low-budget production compared to McGraw’s usual arena approach. He called it a throwback to 15 years ago when he and the band were honky-tonking. Working on a small stage, the band had fun (the camaraderie was obvious) and so did the crowd. Quick Wit McGraw joked: “Don’t forget to tip your bartender and waitress. We’ll be at the VFW next where you can come out and see us from 8 till 1 in the morning.”
Here is the set list: 1. Still 2. Unbroken 3. Back When 4. Last Dollar (Fly Away) 5. Where the Green Grass Grows 6. Kristofferson 7. When Stars Go Blue 8. Southern Voice 9. Suspicions 10. Cowboy in Me 11. You Had to be There 12. Indian Outlaw 13. I Like It, I Love It 14. Live Like You Were Dying ENCORE 15. How Bad Do You Want It 16. Something Like That 17. Real Good Man 18. The Ride

I enjoyed the show but felt that since we had paid $230 per ticket, we should not have had to stand through the entire show in order to see the performance. At that price, I feel that people should be more considerate of the people around them and security did a terrible job on keeping people from rushing up to the stage but Tim McGraw and his band performed very well. It is only the venue that leaves something to be desired. My husband and I felt that for the money we paid, having to stand was just not worth it.
I had seats on the side of the stage. Horrible seats for the over $200 paid. Could only see everyones backsides. I would not recommend the side seats to anyone!
Twila I’m sorry but if you want to sit down to watch a show then stay home and put in a cd or dvd. Tim thrives on people standing and dancing around. This must have been your first concert. I was front row standing and enjoying myself and I’m sure there were more people standing than sitting!
The show was amazing but the seating is not that great for people on the side of the stage and I’m sure they will work on that situation in the future.
The seating chart is a little decieving.
The sound was amazing, they really did a great job on that. This was well worth the trip I made to see Tim.
When Tim sang his new songs you can tell he was very pleased when most of the crowd knew the words to them already after hearing them at other shows.
