Today’s Raging rumor
Posted on September 2nd, 2008 – 10:11 AMBy Chris Riemenschneider
The rumor mill is swirling with talk that Rage Against the Machine might show up in some form or fashion at today’s (Tuesday’s) Ripple Effect concert on the State Capitol grounds. Mind you, rumors were also flying that yesterday’s Take Back Labor Day fest would also have Rage joining the already-advertised Tom Morello. And if not Rage, then Bruce Springsteen or Eddie Vedder. Obviously, such talk drives up interest/attendance at these things, so there is an incentive to let them go unchecked. Tom’s only guests on Monday were Iraq Veterans Against the War (still a pretty hard-rocking presence).
Today’s rumors make a little more sense, though: Anti-Flag, who are opening for Rage at the Target Center, are in the lineup for Ripple Effect. Rage’s members are also pals/admirers of headliner Michael Franti. Also, the band has caught quite a bit of hell for charing $60 for its Target Center show, so a free appearance somewhere might leave them less tarnished. It’s a long shot, or at least an actual Rage performance is, but wilder things have happened this week.
Ripple Effect sounds pretty promising regardless, and it should be easier to get to than yesterday’s deal on Harriet Island (anybody feel like the powers-that-be intentionally made it hard to get to yesterday?). Click here for the parking/transportation details for Ripple Effect, which goes from noon-7 p.m.
