flag.jpgWord of this show came in too late for our deadlines last week, otherwise we would have plugged it: An all-star cast of local Cuban/Caribbean acts are performing at First Ave on Tuesday night to raise funds for Hurricane Ike victims in Cuba. The players include Charanga Tropical (Doug Little’s excellent salsa/jazz band), Puerto Rican hip-hop star Maria Isa, Ipso Facto frontman Wayne McFarlane and his band the Jahz, plus the Tropical Zone Orchestra, La Nina Rivera, Rene Thompson’s dance group and more. Authentic Cuban food will be provided by Victor Valens, ex-owner of Victor’s 1959 Cafe, one of my favorite places to eat in Minneapolis, plus there will be auction items available for larger donations. Tickets are only $10. More info at http://groups.msn.com/minnesotacubacommittee.
