Liz Phair’s ‘Exile’ tour

exile.jpgphair.jpgIf you don’t already know, Liz Phair is coming to First Ave next weekend (Sat., Oct. 4) on her tour marking the 15th anniversary of “Exile in Guyville,” her much ballyhooed debut. She’s playing the album in its entirety and, it seems, entirely trying to redeem the credibility she lost after blatantly selling out with 2003’s sickly polished and dolled-up self-titled album (see: cheesy cover above; the disc didn’t wind up selling anymore copies than her earlier records, by the way).

Based on reviews from the tour, it sounds like she’s doing pretty well saving face. Click here for the Washington Post’s review of her 9:30 Club concert. And here’s a Boston Globe review. Also, Rolling Stone did a pretty good interview with her about the album.

I wrote up a posting here over the summer about how incredibly overrated I thought “Exile” was/is. I’d be curious to hear more feedback on the matter now that she’s coming here on the tour. Click here to go to the older posting.

Liz Phair is really ugly, but she makes up for it by having no talent.

I like the Guyville record, but really got into her music more with 98’s Whitechocolatespacegg. When the 03 Liz Phair disc came out, I loved it. And not just because of my crush on her.

Anyway, I will still follow her music from here on. Although I will not be able to see her at First Ave in Oct, I wish I could be there.

And by the way, what’s the deal with Liz Phair playing in town the same night as Alanis? Seems the promoter(s) would have taken care to avoid that, since in my opinion both performers could draw from the same pool of fans.

Only one female performer in town at a time? Is there a rule in place like that for men? Would explain why so many tours skip Minneapolis.
