Weezer opens up at X

From holing himself up in apartment in L.A. for like a whole year in the mid-90s to sharing the stage with 50 or so fans …
You had to love the new Rivers Cuomo by the end of the concert, when the so-called “Hootenanny Tour” was revealed. As was worked out ahead of time, the fans came armed with instruments from home to help the band play “Island in the Sun” and “Beverly Hills.” They came with everything from washboards (bought the day before, the guy admitted) to trombones (one of which deftly took over the guitar solo in “BH”) to a few instruments I didn’t even recognize. Good times!
The show was plenty fun before that, too. Weezer’s music has always been a blast, and it finally looks like the band is having a blast playing it. Here’s their whole set list:
My Name Is Jonas / Pink Triangle / Perfect Situation (Scott vocals) / Say It Ain’t So /Susanne (Brian vocals) / Keep Fishin’ / King (Scott) / Undone (Tom DeLonge) / Pork and Beans / Dreamin’ / Dope Nose / Trouble maker /Automatic (Patrick) / Hash Pipe / El Scorcho / What’s the Story Morning Glory (Oasis cover) / Greatest Man That Ever Lived
ENCORE 1: Island in the Sun / Beverly Hills
ENCORE 2: Sliver (Nirvana cover) / Buddy Holly

Great set from Weezer. Hadn’t seen them since they played Target Center with No Noubt and Face to Face in ‘97 … if only they hadn’t brought Angels & Airwaves with it would’ve been a perfect show start to finish.
