Lucinda’s 2nd First Ave show

What a difference two weeks makes! This one was completely different from the Oct 23 show at First Avenue, at which Lucinda Williams played her new CD, “Little Honey,” took a break and then offered two songs from each of her previous albums. That was a three-hour affair whereas on Wednesday Lu played one two-hour set.
This time, she got “Jailhouse Tears” right after it took her three tries to pull it off last time. But this time, she had trouble with “Those Three Days,” which she started and aborted three times — and finally abandoned without ever getting past the first couple of lines.
Lucinda didn’t seem to be in the best of moods. Her performance seemed somewhat indifferent, especially compared to her winning efforts last month and this summer at the Minnesota Zoo. Her old pal Tony Glover, the Twin Cities blues harp god, made the night with the encore of three blues standards by Lil Son Jackson, Skip James and Howlin’ Wolf; his presence and expressive harp completely invigorated her. Lu then capped the evening with AC/DC’s rollicking “It’s a Long Way to the Top,” which she dedicated to Barack Obama. (It’s on her new CD.)

i thought the show was good. ya gotta expect a little lucinda meltdown now and then. she canceled the show in duluth tonight for some reason..kinda disappointing
I thought she was great for most of the show. After she stumbled on “Those Three Days” which I would have loved to have heard in it’s entirety, she took a while to regain the momentum she had built up until that point. “Changed the Locks” was uninspired and “Real Live Bleeding Fingers” was mediocre, but she got back into the swing of things when she played Joy/Riders on the Storm.
Loved the encore with Tony Glover.
