Drive-By Truckers & Hold Steady: Night 1
Posted on November 16th, 2008 – 1:13 PMBy Chris Riemenschneider
I’ll save the oh-so-lofty prose until after the second night, but suffice it to say… amazing! Both bands were on top of their game, and together they really amounted to a 1 + 1 = 3 kind of deal. Here’s what they played:
HOLD STEADY: Positive Jam / Constructive Summer / Sequestered in Memphis / Stay Positive / The Swish / One for the Cutters / Party Pit / Massive Nights / Yeah Saphhire / You Can Make Him Like You / Southtown Girls / Lord I’m Discouraged / Stuck Between Stations / Chips Ahoy! / Your Little Hoodrat Friend / Ask Her for Some Adderall / Certain Songs / Redux of the Minutemen’s “History Lesson, Pt. 2,” with lyrics such as “I learned punk-rock in Minneapolis, I used to take the bus in from Edina” / Slapped Actress
DRIVE-BY TRUCKERS: Two Daughters & a Beautiful Wife / Ghost to Most / Righteous Path / Women Without Whiskey / Sink Hole / I’m Sorry Huston / Uncle Frank / Putting People on the Moon / 3 Dimes Down / Home Field Advantage / Hell No I Ain’t Happy / February 14 / Marry Me / Lookout Mountain / Ronnie and Neil
ENCORE: Zip City / (all the rest with Tad, Franz & Craig of THS:) A World of Hurt / Let There Be Rock / Keep on Rockin’ in the Free World

Two great bands that I have seen many times because they have the same great rock and roll spirit. It looks like Patterson Hood is already rubbing off on Craig Finn after seeing him spit on the stage a couple times.
A friend called me around 12:00 am from the Pantages Theater during Government Mule’s show and I heard Patterson Hood joining them on “Cortez the Killer”.
We look forward to tonight.
