P.O.S. covers Pearl Jam

doomtree37-vi.jpgIn lieu of the new deluxe reissue of “Ten,” MTV2 asked younger artists to create new renditions of the songs on Pearl Jam’s landmark debut (personally, though, I always thought “Vs.” was the better album). Here’s video of the Minneapolis rapper’s version of “Why Go.” Pretty frickin’ cool, if you ask me.

Cross your fingers on a Pearl Jam date later this year. At SXSW last week, I heard they’re down to headline the Austin City Limits Fest in September.

You thought Vs was a better album?

Ten is a gold mine, Vs was a broader expanse in their music, but was distracted by it’s breadth in my opinion. Vitology was Eddie against the world, his band, and himself, and created some decent pop songs, but not a great album… No Code was another break in the Grunge bubble, and Yield should have been a HUGE HIT!

That CD was fantastic, and they just lost their flavor of the month appeal because MTV stopped playing videos, paying attention to music, and if you’ve ever seen Pearl Jam live… they are always going to be a HUGE DRAW!

Binarual was a weak cd, but one that has grown on me more over the years.

Riot Act is remarkable. Anyone that has 10 should have Riot Act. It’s track for track the 2nd best cd they’ve ever made in my opinion.

Lost Dogs should have been their Greatest Hits. Any true Pearl Jam fan doesn’t want to see ALIVE, or Jeremy performed… they want to hear that rare track… that improvised magic that only Pearl Jam can perform, and while some of these songs like Sweet Lew were terrible, they also had humor, and showed a band that was finally 100% ok with themselves, and didn’t care what you, or I or anyone else thought. That’s pretty damn cool to me!

The self titled cd was classic. Pearl Jam survived the pop fad of Grunge. They lasted when everyone else was either shooting up, or shooting their heads off, and I believe that they can rightfully take their place with The Who, and The Rolling Stones, The Grateful Dead, and Springsteen as all time all stars on their way to the overrated Rock N Roll Hall of Fame.

From Eddie’s cover of 3 Little Birds, to teaming up with Johnny Ramone for the KKK Took My Baby Away… Ament’s bass playing is without peer… sorry Flea! Matt Cameron’s drumming is as good as anyone not named Dave Groehl, or Dave Lombardo… Stone Gossard is a Rhythm master, and Mike… Mike McCreedy doesn’t get the respect he deserves as one of the greatest guitar players on the face of the earth!

But Vs Chris? It was just a mild chapter in a very full, and ongoing career! May they all stay healthy, and happy because the magic they make on stage is my religion!

My only qualm with Ten over the years has been the totally 90s-esque production. The remix with the re-release by Brendan O’Brien is phenomenal and showcases the songs without the super-heavy reverb. Vitalogy’s still probably my favorite record of theirs but Ten sounds a lot better this way.

Ten is probably my 5th favorite PJ album honestly, and i’ve been a huge fan since nearly day one (seen ‘em 35 times)

Yep, definitely Vs over Ten. I also prefer In Utero over Nevermind (coincidence?). The Pearl Jam albums I listen to the most, though, are actually all the live bootlegs I have.

OK, now who wants to debate P.O.S.’s albums? Is the new one better than “Audition?” I’m starting to think so. And let’s not forget “IpecacNeat,” great stuff too. Hmmm…

Never been much of a Pearl Jam fan. I hated most grunge acts, except Nirvana…and it took me 5 years for the hype to die down before I bought Nevermind

I agreed with Cobain and hated Pearl Jam initially. Thought 10 was watered-down emo hair metal dressed in flannel…although I give Eddie and Co. credit for sticking through it. I think their one of those bands that has actually gotten better and more respectable with age…although they still don’t rank as a great or ground-breaking band in my opinion

‘Never Better’ is not only Stef’s best record, it’s one of the best local hip hop releases ever for me.

When I first heard “Never Better” I didn’t think it was nearly as good as “Audition”….but it’s growing on me. I still think Audition has more varied texture, therefore I enjoy it more as a whole record. Splittin’ hairs though - both, and Ipecac, kick a$$!
