lilyallen2csimonemmet_medium.jpgThe British pop star’s overdue Twin Cities debut was a treat. Two years after canceling, she was better than expected on
Saturday at First Avenue. Strong voice, just enough attitude without being overbearing (or drunk), terrific four-man band, smart music with smart-ass lyrics. Allen did every song on her second album, a handful from her debut and one ironic cover for the encore.

A full review will be published online on Sunday and in Monday’s paper. Meanwhile, here’s Lily Allen’s set list:

1. Everyone’s At It 2. I Could Say 3. Never Gonna Happen 4. Oh My God 5. Everything’s Just Wonderful 6. Him 7. Who’d Have Known 8. LDN 9. Go Back to the Start 10. He Wasn’t There 11. Littlest Things 12. Chinese 13. 22 14. Not Fair 15. F- You  ENCORE 16. Smile 17. The Fear 18. Womanizer (Britney Spears)

What did you think of the show?

Sorry, I thought the sound was messed up– it seemed flat, mono like AM radio. She also pretty much took a slacker attitude towards the performance, I guess that’s what happens when you’re partying with Lindsay Lohan. She spent more time trying to keep her tube top up than rocking it. Seriously, the first band’s sound and effort was superior.

Took my almost 18-year-old daughter to the show. It was terrific. I love her snottiness. (Lily’s - not my daughter’s) The opening act, dance band Natalie Portman’s Shaved Head (think “V for Vendatta”) was a revelation. Great energy. Great fun. I can appreciate QMac’s comment. The sound could have been better, but Lily transcended it.

I thought the show was awesome. It was much higher quality production than I anticipated at First Ave. Lily was funny and sexy and I don’t agree with QMac’s assessment whatsoever. Not sure what he/she considers to be a “slacker”. I thought that Natalie Portman’s Shaved Head was one of the STUPIDIST things I had ever heard/seen. Trying way too hard to be irreverent and missing the mark. Dumb songs, bad performance. Super glad that it didn’t go on any longer - Thank god they only have six or so songs.
