Fleet Foxes, Roots, Helm add summer dates

Looks like the Yeah Yeah Yeahs gig on May 30 will kick off a great summer at First Ave, which can often die down as music heads outdoors. Other new dates that have snuck onto the club’s calendar include Fleet Foxes (Aug. 9; that’s them in the photo), the Roots (July 2), the National (July 16), Sonic Youth (July 21) and Matisyahu (July 1).
Another cool new show of note: Levon Helm at the Fitzgerald Theater on June 10, which we believe will be his first local appearance since a Cabooze gig in 1996. Personally, I think Helm was the best of the Band’s members, and he’s made a couple of sweet albeit rustic albums over the past year and a half.
Also, look for the mighty Orchestra Baobab at the Dakota Aug. 4-5.

Just curious why you didn’t blog on the new Queensryche cd, or the amazing show they performed at The Myth on Saturday night?
I will put Geoff Tate’s voice against anything in pop music for the last 10 years.
This CD has a pop, and a political identity that shouldn’t have been ignored.
The Yeah Yeah Yeahs are cool and all, but they will never see the career that Queensryche have, and Sonic Youth has even less “pop” credibility than anything that is remotely close to hard rock or Heavy Metal. I am not saying Thurston Moore and the gang aren’t cool… the shows are amazing, but you dropped the ball by not writing about Queensryche!
also, Bettye Lavette is playing 2 shows at the Dakota on June 11th
