Second time’s still a charm for Flight of the Conchords

My favorite line of the night, in reference to famine-stricken countries: “We’re raising awareness about brunch in those nations.” That was just one of many incredibly subtle one-liners Bret and Jemaine said and/or sang to the sold-out crowd at the Northrop last night. As you can read in the full review, I didn’t think the show was quite as clever and cute as the one last year at the Orpheum, but it was still pretty damn charming. I wish someone seated down front would share with us exactly what Bret was doing in the crowd during “Sugalumps,” because it looked to me like he was humping someone’s head. Here’s the set list:
Too Many Dicks / Hurt Feelings / Ballad of Stana /The Most Beautiful Girl (In the Room) / Jenny / Business Time / Mutha ‘Uckas / I’m Not Crying / Bus Driver Song / Think About It / Carol Brown / Albi / We’re Both in Love With a Sexy Lady / Sugalumps ENCORE: Demon Woman

these guys are about as funny as Carrot Top (ok, they’re more funny than him, but still)
can’t believe you got stuck covering them when an absolute legend just delivered one of the most amazing shows of the last decade in town.
I thought it was a very good show. i wasn’t at the one last May. considering they played quite a few “old” songs, i wanted them to play “Robots (the humans are dead),” although 2 songs as robots would probably have been too much, and “something special for the ladies (of the world)”, but there were enough songs about ladies already. my least favorite song in general is “i’m not crying (it’s just raining on my face).”
Remember if you see that one guy, call him Madam. Zing!
I was at last May’s show and that show was riddled with more heckling than last night’s show. There was definitely some disconnect but I would say that had to do more with the fire alarms that caused Northrop to evacuate 10 minutes prior to Eugene taking the stage and the other technical difficulties.
I felt that Stana and Too Many Dicks were well executed and they could have featured Bret’s songs a bit more, but his Tiger sweatshirt sufficed, as well as the crowd-play during the Acoustic Slow Jam Sugalumps.
Also, their cellist/new zealand symphony member was called Nigel, not Virgil.
