lloyd.jpgThank you Matty Schindler/Faux Jean for tipping me off to this one (neither the club nor the band sent any notice of it): Richard Lloyd of Television fame is performing tonight at the Uptown Bar and Cafe, and he’s playing with a sorta-new group that also features Television drummer Billy Ficca called the Sufimonkey Trio. Showtime is 10 p.m. Cover is $10. Opener is — you guessed it! — Faux Jean, plus Speed’s the Name.

Like a lot of people my age, Lloyd first came to my attention when he played with “Girlfriend”-era Matthew Sweet, really some amazing guitarwork. I got “Marquee Moon” a few years later and have pretty much listened to it every couple months since then, it’s one of those. Sounds like the new band focuses on material from Lloyd’s 2007 CD “The Radiant Monkey.”
