Langseth reboots from ‘Idol’ booting at Fine Line

“How many of you have seen a girl named Jesse Lang? That girl is crazy.” So joked the newly re-rechristianed Jesse Langseth, who made her first hometown appearance tonight at the Fine Line since getting booted off “American Idol” early into the season this spring. Turns out, the brief “Idol” stint hasn’t changed things much for Jonny Lang’s kid sister, for better or worse. She was back to playing the same size/type of audience she played to pre-”Idol” (only about 150 showed, decent for a midweek crowd). She and her band were back to playing old rock covers, including “Whole Lotta Love” and Lenny Kravitz’s “Sittin’ on Top of the World.” She even changed from the redhead she was on ‘Idol’ back to her original blonde do. She did throw in a few slower, soulful originals, which seemed to follow a theme of either be about breaking up or falling down. She also sang a cover of one of her brother’s songs, “Touch” (something she never used to do). Nothing suggested she deserved to go farther on ‘Idol,’ but there were plenty of signs she could continue to develop an audience in area bars.

We saw Jesse Lang at the Minnesota State Fair about 7 years ago. She was on a Teen stage, totally blonde and she ROCKED! Did she Rock the Fine Line? Or sing totally lame Rufus: “Tell me something good” stuff? I never liked Rufus. They opened for the Rolling Stones in 1975. The STONES were AWESOME! Rufus with Chaka Kahn sucked!
