Elvis vs. Bret: Has Taste of MN improved?

bret.jpgelvis.jpgA booking that would outpace Slayer playing the Basilica Block Party in terms of its surprise element, Elvis Costello’s commitment to headline Taste of Minnesota in St. Paul — on July 4, no less — has many people rethinking the haggard old Harriet Island bash. New owners promised better acts this year, and indeed they gave us relatively bigger if still not major names (myself, I’m down with Judas Priest, who were stellar at Myth last year). But the festival’s lack of diversity, unexcusable for a city-sponsored event, has clearly only worsened, with Poison’s Bret Michaels, Whitesnake and Staind among the other headliners (all metal or fluff-metal).

Costello doesn’t exactly change the old-white-guy dominance, but has it changed people’s mind about the music at the event? How many of you who haven’t been to the event in years will be there on July 4?

I haven’t been to Taste in a few years, but I’m really looking forward to it this year. As a 32-year-old woman, I think the line up is great! I’m most eager for Staind, Whitesnake, and Bret Michaels.

We’ll be in Milwaukee for Summerfest again over July 4th. The Real BIG GIG: 700 bands on 11 stages in 11 days. Love it!

Give me Bret Michaels and Whitesnake, I’ll be there to party and have fun.

It was kind of becoming metal fest this year so I’m reallt glad they added Elvis to balance things a bit. I’m so there for him. I’ve seen Costello at Orchestra Hall and the Orpheum and should be fun outside. I do plan to see Judas Priest too cause I never have. Last time I went to Taste was to see Alice Cooper a few years back and that was a blast so I’m looking forward to it.
