Pearl Jam hooks up w/ Target

Not only was Pearl Jam the first musical guest on “The Tonight Show with Conan O’Brien” but the pride of Seattle will, like Prince, hook up with Target for their next album.
Pearl Jam, which is not affiliated with a label, will distribute its album in the fall via Target, indie retailers, a gaming company, a mobile company, the band’s fanclub (Ten Club) and other media. Details will be announced later. Pearl Jam is also making a Target commercial with Cameron Crowe, director of “Almost Famous” and “Jerry Maguire.”

no mention of Singles? the film Cameron directed that featured members of Pearl Jam in the actual film?
oof.
It’ll be interesting to see how this plays out for both the band and Target. Pearl Jam is going to get a nice chunk of change from Target upfront, but just from observing other bands who have done this deal, they probably won’t see a huge spike in record sales (probably still hover around 500,000 given their last few discs).
That being said, I liked the new song they debuted on Conan tonight (’The Fixer’). They’re at their best when they’re rocking out like that. I hope there’s plenty more of that on the new one.
Can’t wait to hear more! Last night’s song was cool and actually had my wife interested in the new album.
the song they played last night is called ‘Gimme Some’, not ‘The Fixer’. musically it was pretty sweet, but Vedder sounded awful. sure hope the album take is way better.
album’s tentative release date is 9/22
err, sorry ‘Get Some’, dunno why i typed ‘Gimme’ ![]()
Eddie Vedder sounded like crap last night. Band was sharp, tho.
I thought the band was genuinely thrilling last night. The rest of the show, though… I was ready to flip back to Dave after about 10 minutes.
The Target thing is a smart move, at least in their case. Pearl Jam is the rare band that appeals to Joe the Plummer type fans (who need to be steered back PJ’s way from Nickelback) as much as it appeals to cooler, festival-going hipster fans (who need to be steered away from … Grizzly Bear?). The band will get a little more exposure for the record among the more Joe type fans without the record company taking a big chunk of the profits to get them that exposure; the hipsters will get it online; and the dedicated PJ fans will buy it anywhere/anyhow.
grr, now the song is actually called GOT Some, not Get Some:

The Fixer, Gimme Some, Got Some, Get Some…….rough title to match the rough demo on the Tonight Show. Eddie did sound like he had a cold or his voice was shot. The music was great and once EV gets his voice back it sounds like it’ll be a great single. It reminded me of a longer, slowed down version of Lukin!
The Target deal is still wierd to me, being a longtime fan and knowing their history with big corporations. It seems like the exact opposite of what Pearl Jam would do. As Chris stated above, it is definately the smartest move the band can make financially, especially since no one buys CD’s anymore.
