No one’s still quite sure what to make of Chickenfoot, especially because of its name. But curiosity will no doubt bring plenty of people out when the all-star quartet performs Aug. 10 at Myth in Maplewood, the sixth stop on its debut tour. For those who don’t know, that’s the new all-star group with Sammy Hagar, his ex-Van Halen bandmate Michael Anthony and the presumed stand-in for Eddie Van Halen, Joe Satriani. Oh, and the Chili Peppers’ Chad Smith is on drums. The musicianship speaks for itself, but can that many egos mesh into one cohesive band? Satriani’s style is so heavy-handed, I can’t see him playing behind anyone, much less Sammy. We’ll see. The group will debut on “The Tonight Show” with Conan on Friday, the same day the record comes out.
