A film crew from MTV2 (that’s the one that actually airs music, albeit not enough) was in town over Memorial Day weekend filming some local music bigwigs, and it sounds like their work will start airing next week — “Twin Cities Week” on the network. I know for sure they filmed several local acts at the Soundset fest that weekend, including P.O.S., Brother Ali and Mike Mictlan. They also spent a lot of time with Tapes ‘N Tapes, filming at Minnehaha Falls, the Clown Lounge and a backyard bbq. There’s a clip of TNT playing an unplugged version of a new song called “SWM” in the backyard already posted at the “Subterranean” blog. Click here to see it. It’s unclear exactly when/how the rest of the footage will air, but it sounds like it’s going to be a lot of 15-30 second spots around other shows. I’ll try to fill in more details by next week.
I hear they asked all the acts to talk about Prince, probably primed to this summer’s 25th anniversary of “Purple Rain.” Spin magazine has siezed on with a tribute CD and oral history. Sounds kinda silly but fun.
