Aerosmith might “Toy” with us

Aerosmith has announced that it will play its seminal “Toys in the Attic” record in its entirety for its “summer” tour, but it’s not clear if that will include our local date at Xcel Energy Center on Sept. 8. I asked the band’s publicist, and she didn’t know, either. She pointed to the fact that Joe Perry said in an interview that they may switch to playing the “Rocks” album instead after a few weeks. Or they may drop the idea altogether and play more conventional sets by the time they get to us. So I guess we’ll be, um, livin’ on the edge until showtime.
Personally, I’d love to sit through either “Toys” or “Rocks” or maybe even “Draw the Line,” but that’s it. Please don’t do “Pump,” fellas! But I do think the band needs to offer something different this time, especially with Brad Whitford having to sit this one out.
I’d also like to see more classic bands take this approach. I suggested the Stones do “Exile,” “Let It Bleed” or “Sticky Fingers” their last time through. Likewise, the Who (what’s left of them) should do “Who’s Next;” AC/DC should tear through “Let There Be Rock” or “Highway to Hell” (they usually already do most of “Back in Black”); Van Halen (if they tour again) should revive the first album; Kiss should pull off “Destroyer;” the Allmans should attempt to do “Eat a Peach;” what else…?

2nd most over-rated band of all time, behind Zeppelin.
BTW, your Bonnaroo article was totally wrong about The Dead. It was hardly their 1st post Jerry show. It was the 38th show as that incarnation, not even counting the 70 or so shows they played as The Other Ones.
And there is no way they are better without Jerry. Nomination for The Common Man’s preposterous statement of the year.
Aerosmith - Get Your Wings, my fave. Rush - 2112 or Moving Pictures. Zep - anything cover to cover except Coda or In Through the Out Door. Talking Heads - Remain In Light. Yes - Tales from Topographic Oceans. Floyd - Animals or Wish You Were Here. REM - Life’s Rich Pageant. Dylan - Blood on the Tracks. The Beatles - White (we’re fantasizing here, right?) Marley - Exodus. Neil Young - On the Beach. Eurythmics - Touch. Cheap Trick - Heaven Tonight. Metallica - Master of Puppets. Queen - A Night at the Opera. The Cure - Japanese Whispers. Fleetwood Mac - Rumors. Frank Zappa - Joe’s Garage or Sheik Yerbouti. OK…..back to work….
Without fantasizing about bands who have broken up or people who have died (really, Queen without Freddie Mercury doing A Night at the Opera?), here are a few suggestions:
Fleetwood Mac - Tusk
Elton John - Goodbye Yellow Brick Road;
Stevie Wonder - Songs in the Key of Life;
Genesis (with Peter Gabriel) - The Lamb Lies Down on Broadway;
Guns N Roses (original lineup) - Appetite for Destruction;
Supertramp - Breakfast in America;
Rod Stewart - Every Picture Tells a Story; Michael Jackson - Thriller
Also, Steely Dan is already on the road performing (on various nights of the tour) Aja, Gaucho and The Royal Scam. On multiple night engagements, it’s a different album (plus additional fan suggestions) each night…
And if Aerosmith would stay away from anything post-1980, I would be willing to pony up the money to see them. But I won’t pay $100 to hear “Cryin’”, “Amazing”, “Janie’s Got a Gun”, “Livin’ on the Edge”, or any of their other post-addictions, outside-writers era crap.
