The Dead Weather comes alive!

The Dead Weather’s album “Horehound” (not out till Tuesday) is now streaming for free on iLike, click here for the link. I highly recommend checking it out. Holy crap, is this some wicked stuff. Alison Mosshart (of the Kills) proves how seductive and yet hair-raising a blues-rock howler she is, while drummer/producer/occasional-singer Jack White’s sonic fingerprints all over the album, in the best possible ways. One of the best things about the disc, though, is how the songs all sound really collaborative and are dripping in spontaneous rock ‘n’ roll juice. My favorite track might even be the crunchy and very unrehearsed-sounding Dylan cover, “New Pony” (from “Street Legal”). The band also features Queens of the Stone Age guitarist Dean Fertita and Raconteurs bassist Jack Lawrence. I’m guessing this music will be even more powerful live, officially making it the show I’m most looking forward to so far this year.
To hype the album, and/or expand on its creepy tone, the band has made some kind of short movie or long video with the single “Treat Me Like Your Mother,” which will be showing over the weekend on Cinemax. Look for it amid your soft porn then. Click here for a cool preview clip. There are also some other fun if poor-quality performance clips on the band’s site.Â
