The festival gigs have been nice, but Atmosphere is getting back to the basics with two homecoming shows Sept. 8-9 at First Ave, which were just announced over the weekend. Tickets are still available as I write this but will undoubtedly go fast, especially with Eyedea & Abilities as openers.

E&A’s own gig Sept. 4 at the Varsity Theater has now been canceled to make room for the First Ave sets. The duo’s long-awaited new CD, “By the Throat,” has kept me gripped since I got it last week. Wild, wild stuff, although I admit I’m still trying to make heads or tails of a lot of it (a good thing, I think).
