Daughtry @ Cabooze

Chris Daughtry complained about the air-conditioning at the jam-packed Cabooze but “American Idol’s” best selling male (and non-winner) worked it pretty hard Sunday for 75 minutes. The quintet did selections from both of its best-selling albums.

I’d prefer to hear some more rockers instead of so many mid-tempo tunes. But this band is built for radio first and foremost.

Here is what Daughtry played:

Every Time You Turn Around/It’s Not Over/???/No Surprise/Breakdown/Crashed/ Open Your Eyes/September/Over You/Life After You/Supernatural/Feels Like Tonight/There and Back Again  ENCORE You Don’t Belong/Home

Air conditioning? What air conditioning . . . it was crazy hot in there last night. Still, the show was solid. Much better live than radio/studio versions of those songs. Also, thought it was very cool that he stopped in the middle of a song to check on a person who he thought he saw pass out . . . nice to know he’s still human. Luckily, she was fine and they started back up again . . . really without missing a beat.

Great show by Daughtry last night, it was a little warm in there, but it’s too be expected in a smaller older venue like the Cabooze on a hot summer night. A cool addition to the evening was seeing Joe Nathan hanging around in back by the bar most of the night enjoying the show and signing autographs and taking pictures with people.

Daughtry did whine quite a bit about the heat on twitter comments immediately after the show - but he did quite a good job considering it WAS hot in there. We were very close at the beginning and just could not battle the people trying to get closer and had to get out closer to the main entrance. Felt like a stampede could have broken out at any moment. My favorite was when these 2 huge guys thought they could shove us out of the way when there was no where for anyone to move. Fire code? What fire code? He should have played at a more civilized and modern small venue like the Myth.

Considering how PACKED it was in there, I was surprised there wasn’t more pushing and shoving. I got a great spot early, and I didn’t dare move! Daughtry put on an excellent show. I was fortunate and got my tickets the second they went on sale! The women behind me in line to get in paid $200 for their pair!

Air was ok in the back but with all the gear stacked on the sides of the stage nobody went back there. Everybody packed into the narrow sightline where you could see the whole band from right in the very middle of the room. That many middle aged house wives’s getting that works up does seem to generate a lot of radiant heat. What a true saint Joe Nathan was taking the time to shoot pictures with so many people. His wife must be one of the most patient people ever. Seemed like very nice people. What about all the bald dudes in the crowd looking like Daughtry want-a-bees?

Yes it was hot in there last night but worth it. We were stuck to the right side of the stage but had a great view most of time. He really did play to our side a lot. I think it is so much better to see him in a small setting like the Cabooze. Nice to see him back to his bar days. Looked like he enjoyed himself. Now off to Vegas to see him again 8/22, his last show of this small tour. Can’t wait to see him again, bet it will be even better.

I say, yes - he should go to Hollywood, sell his soul and do karaoke!
