St. Thomas Academy vs. Orono in Game 1

St. Thomas Academy (No. 2 seed, 22-4-2): The Cadets have plenty of incentive. They are the defending state champions and failed to get the No. 1 seed. St. Thomas Academy, making its third consecutive state tournament appearance, is riding a 12-game winning streak in which it has outscored opponents 72-8. They have posted seven shutouts during that span. Sophomore Andres Lee and freshman Ryan Walters have scored 23 and 21 goals, respectively.
Orono (21-6-1): A rematch of last year’s quarterfinal. The Spartans lost to St. Thomas Academy 3-2 in overtime on Tony Mergens’ first goal of the season. Another low-scoring affair would be to the Spartans’ liking in their seventh state tournament appearance. Senior Pat McClure leads the Spartans with 25 goals and 32 assists.
