Lake Conference news

This just in: When Chanhassen High School opens in the fall of 2009, it will be a member of the Lake Conference.  That will give the Lake 12 teams.

Chanhassen will be the second high school in the Chaska district.

The addition of Chanhassen to the Lake is no surprise. But now that it’s official, it adds to the intrigue of what will happen with the Classic Lake. With only five current schools (Armstrong, Edina, Hopkins, Minnetonka and Wayzata), the Classic Lake is on the verge of falling apart. MSHSL rules demand a conference have at least five members. We will know more this fall, when the Armstrong district is expected to hold a levy.

If that levy fails, expect Armstrong to depart from the Classic Lake. Then we’ll see the dominos fall as the other Classic Lake teams seek new homes. And it’s no secret that some, if not all, of the Classic Lake schools would like to either join the Lake, or see the Lake and Classic Lake schools form two new leagues.

why can’t a few of the western lake conference schools (i.e. EP, Chaska, Chanhassen) switch over to the classic lake?

It makes sense to send EP, Chaska & Chan to the Classic Lake. That would make a pretty tough conference in almost all sports - of course EP does that all by themselves.

Dear Mr. Millea:

In the third paragraph, second sentence, of your story (05/29/2008) under the title “Lake Conference news” … it reads in parentheses: (Armstrong, Edina, Hopkins, Minnesota, and Wayzata) Should it not be “Minnetonka” instead of “Minnesota”?
