Burnsville’s Rob Finnerty and Rosemount’s Jordan Carlson put on an amazing display in the 1,600-meter run in today’s Class 2A, Section 3 track meet at the University of St. Thomas.
Finnerty won today’s race in 4:06.49 and Carlson was second in 4:07.12. Finnerty’s time is No. 2 in Minnesota prep history, behind only the 4:03.7 of Proctor’s Gary Bjorklund in1969; Carlson’s time was the fourth-best in state history.
Will one (or both) break Bjorklund’s record next week? That remains to be seen, but their performance Saturday marks the 1,600 as the marquee event next Saturday at Hamline.
