3A Final: DeLaSalle 31, New London-Spicer 14

The fourth quarter was all about two things: the DeLaSalle defense, and Islanders RB Evan Williams.  The former completely smothered the New London-Spicer offense from the first quarter onward; the latter carried his team, rushing for 230 yards and three touchdowns, including a pair of fourth-quarter scores.

As silly as it sounds, another important weapon for DeLaSalle has been AJ Barker - not as a wide receiver, but as a kickoff specialist.  The Wildcats started virtually every one of their second-half drives pinned on their own 20, as Barker kept booming kickoffs into the end zone.

We’re now getting set for a Class 2A semifinal: it’ll be defending state champs Caledonia vs. Moose Lake/Willow River.  And if you can’t tell, we’re a considerable amount of time behind schedule at this point; this game will be starting around 25 minutes late, which may push tonight’s Class 5A kickoff to 8:45 or later.
