End 1st: Houston 21, Ada-Borup 8

The Hurricanes have jumped all over the Cougars here in the first quarter, and lead by two scores. You can sum up the first quarter with about a 30-second span, mid-quarter: Ada-Borup, already down 14-0, finally got untracked on offense and drove 67 yards for a score. For a moment, there was a distinct “We’ve got a ballgame here” feeling in the Dome… and then Houston senior Kevin Lindh returned the ensuing kickoff for a touchdown.
Ada-Borup’s offense is based off of junior QB Yuri Johnson’s legs. Johnson, who played halfback most of the year, had 81 of the Cougars’ 128 total yards on the ground. He’s filling in for starter Spencer Ruebke, who’s on the sideline with his left arm in a sling.
It’s hard to describe what Houston’s doing on offense, apart from scoring touchdowns. They’ve run only eight plays, but have 21 points.
