9-Man Final: CGB 8, Kittson 7

The story of this one is probably pretty simple: Kittson County Central kept giving the ball away, and Clinton-Graceville-Beardsley managed to hold onto it for just long enough.  The Bearcats turned the ball over six times - four fumbles, two interceptions, including a pair of fumbled punts - and thus never really had the ball for enough time to get something going offensively.

Credit the Wolverines defense for stifling KCC; give some credit to their offense, as well, for holding on to the football.  This is a team that averaged barely 2.5 yards per play (148 yards on 59 plays), that was 2-14 on third down, and yet managed to win the possession battle by a factor of 2:1. CGB was 3-4 on fourth down, including a game-sealing conversion with two minutes to go in the fourth quarter.

Clinton-Graceville-Beardsley will meet Houston in Prep Bowl XXVII, at 10:00 a.m. the day after Thanksgiving.  It’ll be two 13-0 teams, battling for a state title.

I was at the game and I can tell you that this was an even match but the CGB defense did step up to stop a very, very good QB in Kent. Two of the KCC fumbles were immediately followed by CGB fumbles more or less nullifying any advantage. I would credit CGB for taking what was given them, including several quarterback sneak/dives. This was a hard-hitting game.

Points after touchdown cannot be over-emphasized.

I don’t think the game can be wrapped up with someone saying, “The story of this one is probably pretty simple: Kittson County Central kept giving the ball away, and Clinton-Graceville-Beardsley managed to hold onto it for just long enough.”
Let’s give the Wolverines the credit!! They held the team who took Stephen-Argyle out of the state tournament to only one touchdown. Yes, they too only allowed us to score one. SIMPLY PUT- it was a good game where the guys played their hearts out, gave everything they had and the Wolverines came up with the VICTORY!
Just wish that the MEDIA realized that there are more football teams outside of the Metro that deserve some long over due recogonition and coverage!
To end- CONGRATULATIONS TO THE COACHING STAFF, PLAYERS and FANS!!! Can’t wait for the Championship game!!!
