A study in contrasts in the first quarter: KMS has been grinding the ball down the field, controlling the football, and making their hay on the ground.  On the other side, Springfield’s entire offensive output came on one play.

The Fighting Saints have rushed 24 times for 141 yards, including 66 from the superlative Joel Bauman, who’s over 2,500 yards for the year and scored the KMS touchdown.  Meanwhile, the Tigers fumbled on their first two offensive plays, losing one, but hit a 73-yard pass from Jordan Milbrath to Ryan Beyer for their touchdown.

The stats are astonishing.  KMS has run 25 plays; Springfield has run 4.  KMS had the ball for over ten and a half of the quarter’s 12 minutes.  KMS has yet to complete a pass; Springfield has yet to put together a positive rushing play.  And yet, it’s a tie ballgame.
