More news on conference shuffling

Representatives of eight metro conferences will meet Monday morning to discuss what the future should hold amid the end of the Classic Lake and other expected conference shuffles. But I have learned of one disappointing twist.

The meeting, which was organized by members of the Northwest Suburban, also will include representatives from the Lake, Classic Lake, Missota, Suburban East, Classic Suburban, North Suburban and Mississippi 8.

All those conference were asked to send three people to the meeting. Seven of the conferences have agreed to do so. But I’m told the Lake Conference is refusing to participate in the discussion and will be sending just one person “only to observe.”

In an email exchange today, on the heels of my proposal for conference realignment, someone who is familiar with the metro conferences wrote, “I am not sure what it is with the Lake. They get pretty snooty.”

I hope someone in the Lake gets a handle on things, realizing that what’s best for all the schools and conferences is also what’s best for the Lake. Change is coming, and the Lake can either get on the train or sit by and watch, to its own detriment.

On that note, here’s wishing everyone a Happy Thanksgiving.
