Big wrestling upset
Posted on December 20th, 2008 – 5:53 PMBy John Millea
Because of today’s snow I wasn’t able to get to Rochester for the Minnesota Christmas wrestling tournament, but I have learned of a big surprise. David Thorn, a three-time state champ from St. Michael-Albertville, was pinned in the first period by Apple Valley freshman Brandon Kingsley in the title match at 125 pounds. Kingsley, a first-year varsity wrestler, was seeded seventh in the tournament.
Apple Valley won the team title for the 11th time in 13 years. A full report will be found on the Prep Sports page later tonight.

John,
I posted last year before the tourney. I was very impressed with Ben Morgan from Forest Lake.
Do you think he can repeat at State?
I believe his father has a pretty impressive wrestling resume.
Thanks
I think Ben can absolutely repeat at state. In wrestling, maybe more than any other sport, getting that first big championship seems to almost always pave the way for more of the same.
