What a difference a season makes

Last January, Minnetonka and Benilde-St. Margaret’s played a big boys’ basketball game. Both were highly ranked and, in fact, both went on to win state titles.

Tuesday night will be the “rematch” between the two teams. I’ll be at the Minnetonka gym to watch the game, but it will be much different than last season’s contest. Nine of the 10 starters from the 4A (Minnetonka) and 3A (Benilde) state-championship-game lineups have graduated. It remains a good rivalry, however, and I’m looking forward to seeing both teams for the first time this season.

Hey John, don’t you have presents to wrap?

Sure do, jeb. After tonight’s game I’ll shut it down for a few days and spend time with the family and assorted relatives. One of my kids is flying home from Chicago today, but the last report was “still on the ground here at O’Hare, de-iced twice and just sitting here.”

Happy Holidays, everybody.
