Ashley Wittman, who led Shakopee to the 3A state volleyball championship last fall, has been named the national junior of the year by prepvolleyball.com. Later this year, the 6-1 outside hitter will attempt to finisher her high school career as a three-time state champion.
Wittman, who has committed to the Gophers, had a state-best 655 kills in 2008 and also led Shakopee in digs and serve reception.
“Ashley Wittman is about as balanced as you can get as a player and a student,” Sabers coach Matt Busch told the website. “She is a great offensive player, passer and defender. She is a strong server and would have been the best blocker on our team if she played in the middle. On top of that, she also is a 4.0 student.”
