The only possible surprise is unranked Zach Smith of Buffalo beating No. 6 Garrett Steiger of Rochester JM. Defending champ Ben Morgan of Forest Lake won by fall, as did Adam Hammer of Osseo, Matt Kelliher of Apple Valley and Kahron Nix of Coon Rapids.

Also advancing are Ali Mohammed of Burnsville, Dalton Westerlund of Albert Lea and Jesse Hylton of Centennial.

The place is filling up more and more. The Class 1A prelims will follow this 3A round, and the small schools always seem to bring lots of fans. I expect the largest crowd of the day to come when Elissa Reinsma meets Thief River Falls’ Jacoby Bergeron in 2A-103.
