Warming up (on a chilly day) for more track
Posted on June 6th, 2009 – 8:29 AMBy John Millea
Good morning. I’m back at Hamline’s Klas Field for day two of the state track meet. We’ll have Class 2A events this morning and 1A this afternoon; I’ll be handling 2A and my close personal friend David La Vaque will parachute in for 1A coverage.
It’s 50 degrees and a few raindrops are falling. Everybody working at the meet is dressed for the weather … layers, rain gear, etc.
The first running event is the 4×800 relay at 9 a.m. Lots of field events also begin at 9. I’ll be keeping a watch on the boys’ high jump and Chaska senior Derek Jerde, a two-time champion, as he attempts to break the state record of 7-1. His best is 6-10 and we’ll have to see what role the weather plays in that event and others.
I’ll be out on the track most of the morning, but I’ll post as many winners as I can on Twitter and offer further updates here on the Insider early this afternoon.
