The father of two-sport standout Marcus Williams of Hopkins says his son has decided to play football next fall at Division I North Dakota State. Williams, who also played guard for the Royals’ Class 4A champion boys’ basketball team, “more than likely” try to play both sports as a sophomore, Jeff Williams said.

*Apple Valley has hired a new boys’ basketball coach. Zach Goring, a seven-year assistant with the Eagles and a 1995 Apple Valley graduate, will take over for Mike Fritze, who resigned in April.
