That’s why the call the Super Bowl super, we guess

Interesting press release from the folks at forbes.com, listing the top 10 most valuable sporting event “brands” (as determined by all the revenue generated divided by the number of days the event lasts). Given this methodology, it’s hardly surprising what No. 1 was: The Super Bowl, at an alarming $379 million. We suppose they’re only counting the SB as one day, even though everyone knows it lasts 14 days if you count all the blah blah blah. The Summer Olympics were next, followed by the World Cup, which probably won’t sit too well with those of you who don’t like exercise but like using your hands. There’s nothing suggestive about that last sentence. Nothing at all. In any event, the entire list and article can be found right here. Shockingly not making it into the top 10: The Minnesota state high school wrestling tournament. Tough week for wrestling, indeed.

I probably would like the reference to the “World Cup” (do these guys even need cups ?) even if it was suggestive.
No shame in my game.

Personally, (but how can anyone not start a private opinion with “personally”) I think the female gymnasts in the Olympics who do those forward spins on the balance beam (yikes !!) have much more to protect cupwise than the no hands people playing soccer…and with that, I sign off…for now

My, my, I did give full and honest credit to the above Jon, and also, rare for me, offered to lay down my sword. Am I now to take by the whining of the gang of shoeless children above that you want me to take up that sword again ? Yet, consider that my sword is as sharp as your words are dull.

Soccer sucks, and ’tis a game for those who can excel at no other full bodied sport. Little more need to be said.

Coyote, your reference to “rant” reminded me of a local column a few years ago called just that, “The Rant”. It was in the Star or Press, don’t remember which, but it’s strength was that people writing in had axes to grind, usually about sports but not always. It was a good column, but some newspaper admin. shmuck axed it for some reason..no reason given.

I say this since this column, though it still has many good rants, also has too much stuff like that offered up by Rocket, you and other prepubescents, stuff that is written back and forth to one another as if in a clubhouse, lame stuff really, stuff then that reads like old ladies giggling and sharing recipes.

Soooooo, point is (since apparently I ramble, an observation shared by other ADD kids I’ve worked with) I suggest that you talk sports or talk events in the larger world than Beckham’s balls. That larger world does exist you know. Until then, I suggest giving up your ceaseless quest for the COW, since if that kind of validation is what you need, nothing I can say can help you.

Rocket…decent enuf poem (though Mark Twain called poetry “the last refuge of the wicked”….actaully he didn’t. As far as I know nobody did. I only threw that in since things in “quotes” get way too much attention).

Buttt, before I leave your rhyme, let me remind you of the reality you probably once knew one day you were in school…that is, of course, that fleas are hardly harmless, being the most likely cause of the BLACK PLAGUE. I would rewrite the line in question, but

poetry is not my game
nor is soccer (see ! It doesn’t rhyme)
