Monday edition: Wha’ happened?

No. 1 defeats No. 1: Ohio State’s Mike Conley Jr. scored on a runner with four seconds left, lifting the Buckeyes over the Wisconsin 49-48. The Badgers lost the game, the Big Ten title and big man Brian Butch to an elbow injury. That’s two losses in a row for Wisconsin after being named the AP’s No. 1 team in the most recent poll. The Badgers clearly can’t handle success. The Gophers, meanwhile? They can clearly handle failure. And a little bit here. And some more here.
Gary Russell wasn’t very fast in Indianapolis, so he might not be joining that whole Maroney-Barber pipeline to the NFL.
The Wild is legit. This squad is going to the playoffs.
And last, but most definitely not least: Wolves 98, Wizards 94. We had the occasion to attend Sunday’s matinee, primarily to watch Gil Arenas for this story. KG was outstanding, Ricky Davis definitely had his moments (perhaps strangely motivated by DeShawn Stevenson) and Arenas was well off his mark (4-for-22). One thing we left out of the post-game hilarity: Because there was no hot water in the Wizards’ showers after the game, you could hear the high-pitched shrieks of player after player ducking under nozzles for the briefest amounts of time possible. This was heard several times: “One. Two. Three. Aaaaaaaaaaggggggggggghhhhhhh.” Also, Arenas came sauntering out of the shower covered in soap, and a teammate chided him. He was particularly concerned that Gil would get itchy if he didn’t get the soap out of some, er, hard-to-reach places. So Arenas did the logical thing: He grabbed about four or five lukewarm bottles of water and finished up.
