The Internets: The small things you and Pacman can do

We have a long-standing belief that two seemingly related yet randomly connected events constitute no more than a coincidence; add one more, though, and you have three: three is a trend. And this morning/afternoon in our inbox, we’ve experienced a trend. So we’ll temporarily step aside from the normal parade of jokes and Youtube clips (not that there’s anything wrong with that by any means) for a few interesting and more serious stories:
Pacman Jones apologizes to fans with a newspaper ad. “In the past few weeks, I have learned a lifetime of lessons,” he said. We’ll see if he really means that, but it’s at least an interesting first move.
Jon passes along word of “Hokie Hope day” today — a national day of mourning and remembrance in which people are encouraged to wear orange and maroon, the Virginia Tech colors. It sounds like a nice gesture; you can avoid making it a hollow one by really spending a little time today thinking about what it might have felt like to be on that campus and how the families and friends of victims are coping. (OK, enough preaching).
And finally, a story from the San Francisco Chronicle passed along by Jim Walsh. It’s about a small group of Stanford students and workers who have gone eight days without food in a hunger strike against the school’s living wage policy. It’s a very worthwhile read.
